Question 1

How much does air conditioning installation cost?

Accepted Answer

The cost of air conditioning installation depends on the type of system, the size of your property, and the complexity of the install. A single split system typically ranges from $1,000 to $2,500 fully installed, while ducted systems for whole-home climate control can range from $5,000 to $12,000 or more depending on zones and outlets. At DK Mech, we provide free, no-obligation quotes so you know the exact price upfront. We assess your space, recommend the right capacity system, and ensure all work complies with Australian standards. There are no hidden fees — just honest, transparent pricing.

Question 2

What size air conditioner do I need for my home?

Accepted Answer

Sizing an air conditioner correctly is critical for comfort and energy efficiency. An undersized unit will struggle to cool or heat your space, while an oversized system will short-cycle and waste power. As a general guide, you need roughly 1kW of cooling capacity per 10 square metres of floor area, but factors like ceiling height, insulation, window size, and sunlight exposure all play a role. Our technicians perform a proper heat-load calculation based on your home's layout and your usage needs. This ensures you get a system that performs efficiently and keeps running costs low year-round.

Question 3

How often should I service my air conditioner?

Accepted Answer

We recommend servicing your air conditioner at least once every 12 months for residential systems. If you run it year-round or have a commercial system, twice-yearly servicing is ideal. Regular maintenance keeps filters clean, coils functioning efficiently, and refrigerant levels topped up. It also prevents costly breakdowns, extends the lifespan of your unit, and helps maintain manufacturer warranty compliance. During a service, we check electrical connections, test safety controls, clean components, and inspect the overall performance. Skipping maintenance can reduce efficiency by up to 30 percent and lead to poor airflow or unexpected failures during peak summer or winter.

Question 4

Do you install ducted heating and cooling systems?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we do. Ducted heating and cooling is one of our core specialties at DK Mech. We design, install, and commission complete ducted systems for both residential and commercial properties across Melbourne. This includes gas ducted heating, reverse-cycle ducted air conditioning, and add-on cooling integrated with existing heating units. Our team handles everything from ductwork layout and zoning to thermostat selection and final commissioning. Properly designed ducted systems provide even temperature distribution, quiet operation, and energy efficiency. We ensure all installations meet Australian standards and that your system is sized correctly for optimal comfort and performance.

Question 5

What brands of air conditioning do you recommend and install?

Accepted Answer

We work with all major, trusted brands including Daikin, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Fujitsu, LG, Samsung, ActronAir, and Braemar. Our recommendations are based on your specific needs — room size, budget, energy efficiency goals, and climate conditions. We never push one brand over another for the sake of commission. Instead, we assess which system will deliver the best performance and value for your property. Every brand we install is backed by manufacturer warranties, and our installation work is guaranteed. If you already have a preferred brand, we are happy to source and install it to the same high standard.

Question 6

Can you repair all types of heating and cooling systems?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our technicians are trained to diagnose and repair all major heating and cooling systems, including split systems, ducted gas heaters, evaporative coolers, reverse-cycle units, and commercial HVAC systems. Whether your system is blowing warm air, leaking water, making unusual noises, or not turning on at all, we can help. We carry common parts in our vehicles to minimise delays, and we source replacement components quickly for less common models. Our goal is to get your system running again as fast as possible. If a repair is not cost-effective, we will give you honest advice on replacement options.

Question 7

Do you offer emergency or after-hours repair services?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we understand that heating and cooling emergencies do not always happen during business hours. Whether it is a mid-summer air conditioning breakdown or a winter heater failure on a freezing night, we offer fast-response emergency repair services across Melbourne. Our team prioritises urgent calls to restore comfort and safety as quickly as possible. We will diagnose the fault, explain the issue clearly, and carry out the repair or arrange a temporary solution. For commercial clients, we understand that downtime means lost revenue, so we work efficiently to get your systems back online with minimal disruption.

Question 8

What areas do you service across Melbourne?

Accepted Answer

DK Mech is based in Cranbourne and services the entire south-east Melbourne region and surrounding suburbs. This includes Narre Warren, Berwick, Frankston, Pakenham, Mornington Peninsula, Dandenong, Glen Waverley, and many more. We also handle commercial projects across greater Melbourne. If you are unsure whether we cover your suburb, simply give us a call or request a quote online and we will confirm. Being locally owned and operated means we know the area, understand local building types, and can respond quickly to calls across the region. We take pride in serving our local community.

Question 9

Are you licensed and insured to carry out this work?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. DK Mech is a fully licensed and insured HVAC and mechanical services company. Our technicians hold the appropriate trade qualifications and refrigeration handling licences required under Australian law. We carry comprehensive public liability insurance, so your property is protected throughout the job. All our work meets current Australian standards and relevant state regulations. When you choose us, you are hiring a professional, accountable team that stands behind every installation and repair. We also provide compliance certificates where required, giving you complete peace of mind that the job has been done safely and correctly.

Question 10

How long does an air conditioning installation take?

Accepted Answer

A standard back-to-back split system installation is typically completed in around four to six hours. This includes mounting the indoor and outdoor units, running refrigerant lines and electrical cabling, and commissioning the system. More complex installations, such as multi-head split systems or ducted air conditioning, can take one to two days depending on the size of the property and the amount of ductwork required. We always provide a clear timeframe before starting work and keep you informed throughout the process. Our team works cleanly and efficiently, respecting your home and minimising disruption to your daily routine.

Question 11

What is the difference between split system and ducted air conditioning?

Accepted Answer

A split system consists of one indoor unit mounted on a wall and one outdoor compressor, designed to heat or cool a single room or open-plan area. It is affordable, efficient, and quick to install. Ducted air conditioning uses a central unit connected to a network of ducts hidden in your ceiling or under the floor, delivering climate control to multiple rooms via ceiling or floor vents. Ducted systems are more expensive upfront but offer whole-home comfort and zoning control. We can assess your property and recommend the most suitable option based on your layout, needs, and budget.
